Your home is your castle. Home, in every essence is described as a place of comfort, safety and represents self-expression. So, what does your home say about you? Exterior color schemes are a great way homeowners can express who they are, show some personality and display their design preferences.

One thing to remember is that exterior house colors are not changed frequently, so you will want to think about what appeals to you at present but also weigh those options against how trends will evolve. Based on homeowners choices, the following trends will continue to be popular in 2020:

CLASSIC WHITE

Whether it’s classic white or falls in the range of white hues (off white, cream, ivory, etc.) it remains a popular exterior house color that is paired with beige, taupe, or khaki accents for details such as columns, beams and shutters.  In contrast, choosing a white base exterior means homeowners have the opportunity to accent with dark shades: black, brown, gray. Or, colors that pop, such as cobalt blue or cherry red – especially popular for front door entry.

Not sure where to begin? Start by choosing a white base or neutral color for the house body, pair it with dark accents and finish with a bright front door as a statement. This tip will help you attain a bold, yet elegant finish to your home.

WARM NEUTRALS

Even though grays and whites have been a popular choice in the last 10 years or so, many homeowners are choosing warm beige, but with a twist. They are looking into their surroundings and taking inspiration from natural elements for a natural, harmonious appearance. Using the following color choices can help your home blend with its environment.

  • Light-taupe color: similar to natural cotton or linen and pairs beautifully with dark accent colors;
  • Medium-taupe color: similar to peanut shells. It has a beautiful warm-clay color and pairs well with both white and gray accents;
  • Dark-taupe color: a mix of gray and brown. It will work well for the main body or your home or as an accent. It will look especially beautiful on a home located on a wooded property.

CONTRAST COLORS

White houses with black trim have become very popular in some neighborhoods. They are so popular that it is common to have a few on one street with a very similar color scheme. This is mostly in attempt to stand out – and yes, it works! However, many homeowners still choose a dark-gray accented siding with white-color features, because of its lower-maintenance qualities.
